Sunshine Coast Council – Important Notice
Pelican Waters, Columba Place – Lock Renewal
Project number: P-B3756
The Pelican Waters Lock is due for its 10 year renewal.
This renewal, which is done in addition to an annual maintenance program, will ensure the gates continue to operate and allow water craft to pass between Pelican Waters Northern Lake and Lamerough Canal.
Extensive works are associated with this project including:
- deactivation and shut down of the lock, bulk head installation and dewatering
- lock surface maintenance
- removal of lock gates for transfer to an offsite facility to be stripped repaired, recoated and rubber seals replaced
- removal and rebuilding of gate motors
- upgrade of anti-corrosion systems
- bush and bearing replacement
- commissioning after renewal works are complete
- lock bulk head gates maintenance.
Without this important renewal, it is possible that the lock system could malfunction and cause a significant decrease in lake water levels. This would result in damage to residents’ boating facilities and vessels.
Works are scheduled to start Monday 16 October and be completed by no later than 15 December 2017. The lock will be impassable by boat or other water craft from 23 October to 1 December 2017.
Council understands this will cause an inconvenience and thanks the Pelican Waters community for their patience while renewal work is underway. Council is doing everything possible to ensure this project is completed on time.
Property access may be affected for short periods during construction due to deliveries of materials and heavy vehicles accessing site. Council will liaise directly with affected property owners should this be required.
Traffic management measures will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.
