The Henzells Caloundra RSL Foundation has kicked in to help a local football club after its clubhouse was destroyed by fire.
The Foundation recently donated $5000 to launch the Caloundra Panthers fundraising appeal after the long serving AFL club’s North Street headquarters went up in flames on September 20.
Henzells Director Garry Waters and Caloundra RSL President Gil Carr, who made the official presentation to Caloundra Panthers AFL chairman Brad Hipwood, said the Foundation was pleased to be helping out.
“We were all devastated to see such a proud Caloundra sporting club that has done so much for the community suffer such a terrible loss, so hopefully this donation can help them take the first steps in the rebuilding process,’’ Mr Waters said.
Mr Carr said the Foundation was committed to giving back to the community and helping local causes.
“We wish the Caloundra Panthers the best of luck in getting back on their feet again. It is a club with great fighting spirit and I’m sure they will be back stronger than ever,’’ he said.
The fire that gutted the clubhouse destroyed archives and memorabilia dating back to 1973. The Panthers had just completed an $80,000 renovation of the premises.
